The month-long celebration will feature poetry, film, food, and conversation, offering opportunities for reflection, learning, and connection.

One of the highlights will be an In Conversation with Roifield Brown and Professor Carl Chinn on Tuesday, 21st October 2025

Broadcaster Roifield Brown will be in conversation with renowned historian Professor Carl Chinn. Together, they will explore the changing face of Birmingham during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. The discussion will delve into the experiences of West Indian immigrants — why they settled in particular areas such as Handsworth, the industries in which they worked, and the broader social and cultural impact they had on the city.

The evening will be accompanied by a visual presentation, with historic photographs displayed on screen to bring these stories to life. This promises to be an insightful and engaging event, offering a deeper understanding of Birmingham’s rich multicultural heritage.

On October 26th,  there will be a celebration of movie star Chadwick Boseman with a screening of the Marvel movie Black Panther.  The movie is a gorgeous celebration of Black culture and in many ways, a love letter, to the Black community.

Temper & Brown will also be introducing a culinary story on a plate, developed by Esmie’s Kitchen. The Chef’s Journey menu draws inspiration from food traditions shaped by migration, resilience, and creativity. Each plate offers a story — fried dumplings, from African fried dough carried to the Caribbean, to the fusion of African and Indian influences in dishes like Trini Doubles and Curry Mutton to St Kitt’s Saltfish cakes. Diners can enjoy 5 plates for £33.

There will also be an evening with Ayan Aden, Birmingham’s Poet Laureate. As a Somali Muslim poet, her work exists to create spaces of conversation, in order to change the world for the better.

And what better way than to round off the month with a fun evening talking about the GOAT Lewis Hamilton and why his achievements make him the greatest of all time!
